The synergy between physical and cognitive coaching

Coaching is a personal teaching and learning process based on rapport, willingness to learn and the ability to express ourselves in practice within a non-judgmental and empowering environment. The coach-client relationship is built on trust and mutual respect; the coach listens to the client, provides support and guidance, and challenges the person to help them achieve their desired outcome.

Physical and cognitive coaching are two different but complementary approaches that can be used to succeed in any area of life, especially in the business world.

Physical coaching focuses on the body and helps the client to develop physical strength, mobility, and control over the body. Cognitive coaching, on the other hand, focuses on the mind and helps the client to develop mentally through acquiring new skills to improve existing ones.

Why is physical coaching important?

The three pillars, strength, mobility and control over the body of physical coaching are inevitably key qualities for success in life. Nowhere is this accurate than in high-achieving professionals dedicated to continued growth in their careers, don’t you think? They will want to invest time in preparing their physical body for top performance in their field.

Physical strength builds somatic resilience in clients so they can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Mobility on the other hand boosts adaptability to changing circumstances, which is a daily occurrence in dynamic workplaces. Endurance wraps the whole package together, awarding the client the ability to persevere in the face of daily adversity.

“Leaders think and talk about the solutions. Followers think and talk about the problems.” - Brian Tracy

What are the benefits of cognitive coaching?

A true leader understands his or her employees as every business is built on staff members.

It’s a process for both leaders and employees built on rapport and trust through time. Time and budget are the two contributing factors SMEs {Small and medium-sized enterprises}, are short of. However, finding the right coach is worth the time and money as the investment made in the coach is insignificant compared to the value and benefits the coach can have on the leaders ergo organisational culture.

The real value of a great coach can only be measured by business performance. The value or results can be broken down into three factors which are inner and outer personal benefits and business benefits.

The coach will guide the person through obstacles, and build self-esteem and discipline. However, every goal-orientated manager must be challenged mentally to go above and beyond their potential. To do so, one must explore their own beliefs, and values and build self-confidence so he or she can lead by setting clear structure, boundaries and business direction.

‘’A great person attracts great people and knows how to hold them together.’’ - Goethe

How do physical and cognitive coaching work together?

Have you ever felt stressed or angry at work, like you could explode or just wanted to lose steam? The blend of physical and cognitive coaching creates synergy and balance within a person. By addressing and mending imbalances in physical fitness and mindset, a coach can help their clients significantly improve their performance at work.

Studies suggest that work stress is a major challenge to mental, physical and organisational health which leads to work-related stress costs in sick pay and lack of productivity. However, further research shows that physical activities significantly improve the work-life balance of employees and result in organisational performance.

Our holistic coaching method at The Rubik People integrates the physical and mental coaching approaches for professional and personal growth. Unlike most coaching offers, our approach is primarily based on psychometric profiling and a thorough fitness assessment giving our clients a full picture of their current state of body and mind. This will enable us to combine physical and cognitive coaching in a way that gives the most unique coaching experience to our clients that promotes mental stability and physical strength.

This perfect fusion also supports our clients in developing self-awareness and insight. Strength in both areas helps an individual to remain motivated and focused. It’s a comprehensive approach that leads the client to achieve or reach and go beyond their potential.
